A cultural Highlight
Visiting the Bregenz Festival is an unforgettable experience. Madame Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini
Madame Butterfly is an opera in three acts by Giacomo Puccini. The libretto was written by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. The opera, nowadays one of the most popular operas, is about the japanese Geisha Cio-Cio-San, known as Butterfly, who marries an American naval lieutenant.

Ernani by Giuseppe Verdi
Giuseppe Verdi achieved his final breakthrough as a composer with the gripping drama of love and revenge. The opera is based on a play by the French author Victor Hugo, whose lyrics inspired Verdi to create his unique style of moving arias, stirring choruses and dramatic scenes.
Werther by Jules Massenet
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's scandalous letter novel "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" aroused the interest of the French composer Jules Massenet more than 100 years after its first publication. The opera is performed in French with German surtitles.
The Imagination Bound by Ferdinand Raimund
Sabrina Zwach's version of the original magical play (1828) is about poets, the inhabitants of a beautiful flower island. However, the peace is disturbed by two evil sorcerers and the Queen of the island tries to drive them out. (Guest performance of the Burgtheater)

The Broken Jug by Heinrich von Kleist
The audacity with which the patriarchy exercises its power in this three-act play turns Kleist's drama into a comedy. It is a case of abuse by a judge who is trying to shirk responsibility and guilt bluntly and unscrupulously. (Guest performance of the German Theatre Berlin)

This year, the Vienna Symphony Orcestra and the Symphony Orchestra Vorarlberg present among other things the fascinating sound world of the japanese instrument Koto. For kids there is also a lot to experience due to a combination of games, dance and music at the festival hall!
